Code in camera app signals the arrival of 4k60 video recording with Pixel phones
Code in a leaked apk file of the Google Camera app indicates that the internet company will support 4k video shooting at 60fps on one or more of its phones. Current models don’t have that.
The code is in Google Camera 7.4, reports XDA-Developers. Its apk comes from whoever posted the recent hands-on video of the Pixel 4a online. The reference is in one of the files related to video recording, but does not exist in other files that control the video options in the app.
While many competitors already support 4k shooting at 60fps on phones, Google Pixel phones can’t. According to the internet company, there is little need for it, because the majority of users do not even film in 4k, but in full hd. The Pixel 4 can film in 4k, but with a maximum of 30fps.
It’s unclear whether the feature should come to the Pixel 4 or whether it’s intended for the presumably cheaper Pixel 4a, for example. Google released its Pixel 3a last spring, but it also regularly adds features to its smartphones with interim updates. The most recent of these was this month.
