BMW stops production of hybrid i8 sports car
BMW will stop production of its i8 hybrid sports car next month. The car has been on the market for a total of six years. The car manufacturer does not say why it is stopping production of the sports car.
BMW has sold a total of more than 20,000 units of the sports car, the manufacturer says. That is between three thousand and four thousand per year that the car has been in production. The car went on sale worldwide as the German brand’s first hybrid sports car.
The car manufacturer showed a concept of the i8 in 2011 and presented a variant for sale a few years later. The car brought several innovations, including headlights that use lasers instead of LEDs. These have now appeared in many more models of the car manufacturer.
