Firefighters extinguish fire at Samsung chip factory in South Korea
Samsung’s Korean Hwaseong chip factory south of Seoul briefly burned out. The fire brigade was able to quickly contain the fire. As far as is known, there have been no casualties and the fire does not affect chip production, according to Samsung.
The fire broke out at a wastewater treatment facility on Sunday night, a Samsung spokesperson said, according to Korea’s Yonhap news agency. On Monday morning, the fire brigade managed to extinguish the last flames. The electronics giant will investigate the cause together with the authorities.
Production lines would not have been affected by the fire and chip production would not suffer as a result. That was the case at the beginning of this year when a power outage at the Hwaseong factory briefly halted dram and nand production. The damage could have amounted to millions of euros.
