Anonymous: 27614 was the first to report that KDE 3.0 is out of beta. KDE’s heavily congested FTP contains the source codes of the Final of KDE 3.0. The official KDE site hasn’t announced it yet.

The most important improvements are not immediately visible. kde 3.0 is based on qt 3. KDE 2 binaries will often not yet be compatible with kde 3.0 because kde 3 uses a new set of libraries. however, recompiling the source code should go smoothly. According to the developers, the memory usage is now more efficient and there is a significant stability gain. Below is a quote from the German site of Heise News.

On the KDE website, it is not enough for the Unix/Linux desktop KDE 3.0 has the beta stage: On the FTP server of the KDE project, it can be found in the morning im Zweig stable ein Unterverzeichnis 3.0.

edit: I managed to connect to the FTP server. The server contained the directories: FreeBSD, Mandrake, Red Hat, Slackware, SuSE, Tru64, YellowDog, and src.
