Rumor: Nvidia is working on GPU positioned between RTX 3070 and 3080
Nvidia is rumored to be working on a new RTX 3000 video card that will be positioned between the RTX 3070 and 3080. It would be a video card with a scaled down GA102 GPU, which is also used in the RTX 3080.
Details about this alleged GPU have been published by Twitter user Kopite7kimi. This leaker published the correct specifications of Nvidia’s current RTX 3000 video cards before release, VideoCardz also writes. According to Kopite7kimi, the so-called GA102-150-GPU will get 7424 Cuda cores. That is 1536 more than the RTX 3070. The RTX 3080 has 8704 Cuda cores according to the specifications of Nvidia.
The Twitter user also reports that the video card in question would get 10GB of gddr6x memory with a 320bit memory bus, just like the RTX 3080. It is not clear what the model name of the alleged Nvidia video card is. It may be an RTX 3070 Ti, but that has not yet been confirmed. It is also not yet known when this video card will be announced.
Earlier this week, it was rumored that Nvidia has dropped its RTX 3080 20GB and RTX 3070 16GB. The GPU manufacturer would also have scrapped plans for an RTX 3070 Ti. However, according to previous rumors, the RTX 3070 Ti would get a GA104-400 GPU with 6144 Cuda cores. The current RTX 3070 also has a GA104 chip, although it has 5888 Cuda cores. Kopite7kimi now claims that a comparable video card will be equipped with a more powerful GA102 GPU. Nvidia also plans to release an RTX 3060 Ti in November.
