The makers of Winzip have upgraded the program to version 9.0 beta 3 build 6007. The update is from this page download and has a size of 2.25 megabytes. Winzip is able to zip and unzip files using different compression methods. The program was originally developed to extract dropped zip files. It changelog of this release looks like this:

Changes between Beta 2 (build 5611) and Beta 3 (build 6007)

• A minor change to the WinZip AES-encryption format has been made in this beta. WinZip 9.0 Beta 3 will still correctly process AES-encrypted files created by earlier beta versions of WinZip 9.0. However, WinZip 9.0 Beta 1 and Beta 2 will not be able to decrypt AES-encrypted files created by WinZip 9.0 Beta 3. We recommend that all users of the earlier beta versions of WinZip 9.0 download and install WinZip 9.0 Beta 3. (Technical details of the change are discussed in www.winzip.com/aes_info.htm.)
• WinZip is now able to read password-protected AES-encrypted files created by PKZIP for Windows.
• With Windows XP and Windows 2000, shortcut menus for files in the WinZip Classic interface main window now include an “Open With” entry that allows you to select the application to be used to open or view the files.
• The File menu in the WinZip Classic interface has been reorganized to make the most frequently used items easier to find and to reduce the size of the menu. Most notably, the archive management items such as Copy Archive have been relocated to the new Manage Archive submenu, and the list of recently opened archives now appears in the new Recent (History) submenu.
• In WinZip 9.0 Beta 2 only, an internal error would occur in WinZip if the Windows folder name contained a period. This error has been corrected.
• Other minor corrections and improvements have been made throughout the program and in the Help file.
