Nikon released a new firmware for the D300 digital cameras some time ago. This fixes what Nikon says is a rare issue that caused vertical banding in photos shot at shutter speeds longer than 8 seconds. About this firmware update

The D300 uses two different firmware sets, A and B. This download only upgrades firmware set A to version 1.02..

This firmware resolves an issue that in rare cases causes vertical banding to appear in photos taken at shutter speeds greater than 8 seconds.
