Google releases Glass Enterprise Edition 2 for developers

Google is releasing its Glass Enterprise Edition 2 for developers about nine months after its release for businesses. Thanks to the release, developers who want to can get started with the augmented reality glasses.

The intention is that developers can use the glasses to create business applications, Google reports. The glasses were already released for companies in May last year, but until now they were only available on a limited scale via Google. Google partner companies SHI and Mobile Advance are now offering the Glass Enterprise Edition 2 for prices just above $1,000.

The software works on the basis of Android and Google has also put new samples online, which developers can use to create software for the new version of the glasses. The Enterprise Edition 2 has a Qualcomm XR1 processor. The battery has a capacity of 820mAh. Furthermore, the glasses have 3GB lpddr4 memory, 32GB of emmc storage and the glasses still run on Android Oreo. This time also Android Enterprise Mobile Device Management is supported. Wi-Fi 5 via 802.11ac and bluetooth 5 are also present and the projector is still in front of a single eye; this module has a resolution of 640×360 pixels.
