Google Play Store has earned developers $80 billion so far
Developers have received $80 billion in revenue from the Google Play Store so far. That has been announced by the search company. Until 2019, Apple paid out $120 billion to developers for apps in the App Store.
It concerns revenues from the Play Store worldwide, excluding China, reports Google CEO Hiroshi Lockheimer. It is unknown whether Google has included the revenue from Play Store predecessor Android Market, but the chance seems high; it involved a name change. The Android Market went live in 2008.
This means that the revenue is lower than that of the Apple App Store. Developers made $120 billion in the App Store until early 2019, Techcrunch reported at the time. It is obvious that the amount is now slightly higher.
Nevertheless, there are many more active Android devices with Google services than iPhones. The number of active devices with Google Play now exceeds two billion. Apple said last week that there are 1.4 billion active iOS devices, 900 million of which are iPhones.
