OpenOffice.org is a well-known open source office suite that comes with a word processor (Writer), a spreadsheet program (Calc), a presentation program (Impress), a drawing program (Draw) and a database program (Base). The developers have just released version 2.0.4 to coincide with OpenOffice.org’s 6th anniversary. This new version has a number of useful new functions such as exporting to LaTex, but the possibility to use extensions is particularly striking. This allows you to expand OpenOffice.org with all kinds of useful functions. Version 2.0.4 has been made public with the following announcement:

This is Friday 13 October and the day marks two important events: the immediate availability of OpenOffice.org 2.0.4 and our 6th anniversary. OpenOffice.org 2.0.4 is a significant release and recommended for all. New features, bug fixes, and improvements include:

• Enhanced PDF management
• Direct export to LaTex
• New functionality in Calc and Impress
• Mac OS X (X11) now uses system fonts
• And more…
