Google has released a new version of its Desktop software in the form of 4.2006.825.1629 beta, available from here currently only available for download in the English language version. Desktop not only allows you to search for and in files on your computer, but also for specific search terms in e-mails, meta information of music and movie files and document files, among other things. The 4 series of Google Desktop consists of a sidebar in which so-called gadgets can be used without having to install them separately. The gadgets include a newsreader, weather reporter, RSS and Atom reader, notepad, ‘system check’ with PC statistics and a media player. You can also download separate gadgets that extend the functionality of the sidebar. The sidebar is integrated with a number of Google services and other programs, so that it is possible, for example, to be reminded of birthdays from the Orkut address book or that the Desktops mail notifier notifies you when you have received a new e-mail at your Gmail email address. Google has not disclosed any changes in the new Desktop 4.2006.825.1629 release.
