Facebook’s VR headset Oculus Quest 2 will get an option at release to show menus with a refresh rate of 90Hz, while developers will be able to use the option soon afterwards. The headset’s LCD defaults to 72Hz.

This makes the Quest 2 seem to be able to work faster at 90Hz than Facebook previously said. At the announcement, the company already announced that in the future the Quest 2 would work at 90Hz, but that it would be 72Hz at release.

A review sample of UploadVR’s Quest 2 is already running at 90Hz, the site claims. The Virtual Desktop application is already running at that refresh rate, and Facebook confirmed that the review sample already supports the higher refresh rate.

The 90Hz option, along with the higher resolution, is one of the major upgrades for the new Quest headset. Instead of two OLED screens, the Quest 2 has a single LCD of 1832×1920 pixels per eye with a refresh rate of 90Hz. The original Rift already had an OLED screen with 90Hz support in 2016, but Facebook is discontinuing the Oculus Rift series.
