Rumor: iPhone 12 Pro models do not have a 64GB variant

The iPhone 12 Pro models don’t have a 64GB variant, but start at 128GB of storage, Jon Prosser reports. It would be the first time that 128GB of storage is the cheapest version of a particular iPhone model.

The minimum of 128GB only applies to the Pro models, claims Prosser. The regular iPhone 12 models, including the iPhone 12 mini with a 5.4 “OLED screen, do have a 64GB variant. In addition, more expensive versions come with 128GB and 256GB of storage.

It would be the first time that 128GB is the minimum for an iPhone model. The iPhone 11 Pro has a 64GB model, while Apple has long stuck with models with 32GB of storage. Since iPhones don’t have expandable storage and the standard version of iCloud offers 5GB of storage, the amount of storage in a phone matters to many users.

Apple would ship the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 to distributors starting October 5, and according to Prosser, the event will follow with the announcement on October 13. Prosser has correctly reported a lot of information about Apple products in the past year, but his information sometimes turned out to be incorrect.

The manufacturer itself has not commented on the rumors. The new iPad Air will be released next month with at least 64GB of storage, while the latest iPad Pro came out this spring with at least 128GB of storage.
