EA’s upcoming replacement for Origin launcher is called EA Desktop App
The improved Origin launcher that EA is working on will also be renamed. EA will no longer use the Origin name and will call the software EA Desktop App. EA Play and EA Play Pro members can sign up for a beta test.
EA provides details about Origin’s successor in an interview with GamesBeat. According to the publisher, the new software will provide faster downloads and updates and make it easier to access games. Connecting with friends should also be easier in the new version.
Earlier it appeared that EA is working on a new version of its launcher with a dark mode. The publisher says nothing about this in the interview. EA does announce that members of the EA Play and EA Play Pro subscriptions can sign up for a beta test. EA then sends out invitations to a number of interested parties. All progression from Origin will be transferred to the new launcher.
EA has recently made a number of changes to its services. The Access and Origin Access plans for consoles and PC have merged under the name EA Play. Now that the Origin name is also dropped from the launcher, that name will disappear entirely.
The EA Play subscription has also been available via Steam since the end of August, and Microsoft announced in September that EA Play will be part of the Game Pass Ultimate subscription for Xbox consoles and the Game Pass subscription for PC.
