Panasonic is working on Lumix GH6 camera
Panasonic is working on a new camera in the GH series, aimed at video makers. The GH5 with microfourthirds sensor was released in 2017 and a GH5S variant followed a year later. Details about the new camera, which will probably be called GH6, are not yet known.
Panasonic confirms the arrival of the new GH camera in a video about Lumix’s brand strategy. Yosuke Yamane, director of Panasonic’s camera division, says that a new model in the GH series is in the works and that it is yet another camera aimed at creators. His wording seems to indicate that more details about the device will follow soon.
Panasonic released the Lumix GH5 in 2017. That camera has a microfourthirds format 20.3-megapixel sensor. In early 2018, Panasonic announced the GH5S, a variant with a 10.2-megapixel sensor focused on shooting 4k videos in low light. The sensor size is the same, but the pixels are larger due to the lower resolution.
Since last year, Panasonic has also released cameras with a full-frame sensor; the models in the S1 and S5 series. These too have many functions aimed at filmmakers. With the confirmation of the arrival of the new GH model, Panasonic makes it clear that the company will also continue to invest in high-end microfourthirds cameras. The GH models are cheaper than the full-frame S-series cameras.
