Download Samba 3.0.20

Spread the love

After more than four months of silence, the development team behind Samba has released a new version of the program of the same name. Since so many changes have been made in this release, it has been decided to jump straight from version 3.0.14a to 3.0.20. Samba is intended for Linux servers and is able to provide file and/or printer services to Windows clients. The source code can be downloaded from this ftp location or via BitTorrent† In the latter case, it is recommended to verify the download using this GPG signature† The release notes for this version look like this:

Additional features introduced in Samba 3.0.20 include:

  • Support for several new Win32 rpc pipes.
  • Improved support for OS/2 clients.
  • New ‘net rpc service’ tool for managing Win32 services.
  • Capability to set the owner on new files and directory based on the parent’s ownership.
  • Experimental, asynchronous IO file serving support.
  • Completed Support for Microsoft Print Migrator.
  • New Winbind IDmap plugin (ad) for retrieving uid and gid from AD servers which maintain the SFU user and group attributes.
  • Rewritten support for POSIX pathnames when utilizing the Linux CIFS fs client.
  • New asynchronous winbindd.
  • Support for Microsoft Print Migrator.
  • New Windows NT registry file I/O library.
  • New user right (SeTakeOwnershipPrivilege) added.
  • New “net share migrate” options.

What happened to 3.0.15 – 3.0.19?

After some discussion it was deemed that the amount of changes going into the next Samba 3.0 release needed something to catch people’s attention. Skipping several releases was chosen as the best solution with the least overhead. There will be no 3.0.15 – 3.0.19 ever released. The next production release following 3.0.20 should be 3.0.21.[break]
