The folks at Ubuntu have released the first release candidate of Ubuntu Linux 7.10 prepared† The new version of ‘Gutsy Gibbon’, the codename of the development branch, is available from this page for x86, amd64 and ppc systems. The ‘final’ version of the 7.10 branch should be released this month.

Ubuntu Linux 7.10 comes with, among other things, Gnome 2.20 and is also equipped with a large number of new features. For example, it is possible to search for files and programs from the desktop via the Deskbar Applet, it is no longer necessary to use the terminal to change video and screen properties and printers are installed and configured automatically. It is also possible to read and write files to hard drives formatted with the ntfs file system.
