New Batman game may be a prequel
According to Variety, the sequel to Batman: Arkham City will be a prequel based on the Silver Age books from the 1950s. The game would focus on the first encounter between Batman and nemesis the Joker.
It’s just rumours, but according to Variety works the English Rocksteady Studios for publisher Warner Bros. on a sequel to Batman: Arkham City. The game should be released in 2014. Rocksteady would have found inspiration for the new game in the Silver Age books, a series from the fifties, in which Batman forms the Justice League together with Superman and other superheroes. The game takes place before the events of 2009’s Batman: Arkham Asylum and 2011’s Batman: Arkham City. In the same series, Batman is introduced to The Joker for the first time and that meeting is central to the new game, according to Variety. Variety does not report whether the members of the Justice League will appear in the new game.
Both previous games were very successful. Batman: Arkham Asylum sold more than 4 million copies and its sequel Batman: Arkham City even sold 6 million copies. Warner has not officially released anything about a successor. At the end of this year, the Batman Arkham City Armored Edition will be released, a version of the game from 2011 for the Wii U to be released then. In that version, the controls have been adapted to Nintendo’s new console.
