Rumor: Google is working on 10″ version of Nexus tablet

Google may also want to market a tablet with a 10″ screen in addition to a 7″ version, according to orders for screen panels. In addition, hackers managed to get root on the Nexus tablet.

According to Digitimes, Google has ordered 10″ panels from AU Optronics and Wintek. The latter already supplies the 7″ screens used for the Nexus 7 tablet. In total, Wintek would supply one million touchscreens of the so-called ogs type for the Nexus tablets in the months of May, June and July. With such panels, several layers are combined so that the panel becomes thinner. Google has not yet made any announcements about a possible 10 “tablet, so it is still unclear what exactly the plans are.

Meanwhile, hackers have already managed to root the newly released Nexus 7 tablet, despite it not being officially out yet. According to RootzWiki, who published the method, root is obtained by installing a custom bootloader, after which the well-known Super SU app must be installed. Hackers also managed to obtain an early version of an Android 4.1 ROM, which can be installed on the Galaxy Nexus, but has already been ported to other smartphones.

Google’s Nexus 7 tablet is based on the Tegra 3 soc from Nvidia and has a 7″ screen with 1280×800 pixels. A bare installation of Android 4.1 has been installed, making the device the first with this Android version on board. The new release of the mobile OS includes performance improvements and custom notifications.
