Adata Introduces XPG SX910 SSDs
Manufacturer Adata has released an improved version of its XPG SX900 solid state drives. The XPG SX910 series of SSDs is said to be equipped with a better series of flash chips than the 900 series and has received modified firmware.
Adata has a stricter testing procedure for the flash chips in use for the 910 series. This should lead to a better selection of memory chips, which last longer and perhaps offer slightly better performance, thanks to a process called ‘binning’. However, the stated speeds and iops of the new series of SSDs are the same as those of the 900 series, with maximum sequential read and write speeds of 550MB/s and 530MB/s. The maximum iops enabled by the SandForce SF2281 controller in the XPG SX910 series is 50,000 for read and 85,000 for write.
The drives are equipped with SATA-600 interfaces and are 9.5mm high. Unlike the SX900 series, the drives are available in 128, 256 and 512GB capacities; a 64GB version is missing. The better flash chips would require less overprovisioning, resulting in higher unformatted capacity than the 900 series. Adata also dares to give a longer warranty on the SX910 SSDs; it is five years. Prices for Europe are not yet known; in the US, the drives cost $190, 380, and $750.
