Apple offers developers the opportunity to use codes to offer discounts on subscriptions

Apple will begin offering developers the ability to discount subscription pricing via codes this fall. Developers can give these to customers physically or by email.

Until now, developers can only give discounts via promotions within the app, but with the new system that is changing. The offer codes will work from later this year on devices with iOS 14 or iPadOS 14, Apple says. The manufacturer allows developers to distribute the codes through, for example, mailings or at offline events. This is not possible with current methods.

Developers can register up to 150,000 codes with Apple for use every three months, the documentation shows. Users can then enter such a code via a button in the app, after which Apple checks whether the code matches one of the codes that the developer has generated.

This way of giving discounts is one of the three ways of giving discounts on subscriptions within an app. Developers can also offer introductory offers to users within the app or discount existing customers within the app.
