A new build of VLC Media Player can be found on the VideoLAN website in the form of version 0.9.9. The new version is available from this mirror server for Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows. VLC Media Player is an open source media player that can be used on a variety of operating systems, including Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. The player is able to play a wide range of media formats out-of-the-box and without additional codecs, ranging from DVD movies to QuickTime clips. VLC Media Player can also handle various streaming protocols.

VLC Media Player 0.9.9 is considered a bug fix release by the developers and fixes some bugs related to full screen video playback on multiple monitor systems. Furthermore, the performance of the media player on Intel Macs has been improved and several decoders of the Windows build have been updated. In addition, in version 0.9.9, FFmpeg is used for Real Video playback:

The VideoLAN team is very pleased to announce the release of VLC media player 0.9.9.

This is a bugfix release on the 0.9 branch of VLC. Notables bug fixes are:

  • full screen behavior on Windows with multiple screens,
  • workaround bug with libxml2 >=2.7.3,
  • video performance on Intel-based Macs,
  • various decoders updates on Windows.

An experimental native decoder for Real Video 3.0 & 4.0 using FFmpeg has been added and many fixes happened in our Real Media demuxer. This should improve Real Media Files support on all platforms.
