3M Introduces Two Multi-Touch Displays
A subsidiary of the American 3M has introduced two new computer displays with multi-touch support. The 3M Touch Systems screens register twenty and forty touches respectively.
The smaller screen of the touch duo announced during the InfoComm fair has a screen diagonal of 24 inches. The 3M Multi-Touch Display M2467PW can register twenty touches simultaneously, while its 27″ brother, with type number M2767PW, has support for up to forty multi-touch points. Accidental touches, such as from a palm or arm, can be ignored.
The screens are intended for use by several people at the same time, such as in commercial applications such as digital signage. The screens have LED backlights and the touchscreen technology used by 3M Touch Systems uses capacitive screens. The touch screen response time is 6ms for the 24″ screen and 10ms for the 27″ screen. Both displays use p-mva panels, which provide large viewing angles. The resolution is in both cases 1920 by 1080 pixels.
The 27″ screen would be available for about two thousand dollars, but Amazon only has prices of the 24″ model on its site for the time being. That costs, when purchasing ten pieces, about 1440 euros each.
