OWC introduces usb-c dock with eleven connections
OWC has announced a docking station that connects via a single USB-C cable and can simultaneously serve as a power supply. The docking station, for example, expands laptops via the single cable with eleven other connections, including Ethernet and HDMI.
The OWC USB-C Dock provides an 80W power supply, eliminating the need for a separate power supply via USB-C. Furthermore, the dock expands the connections of a device with two USB-A connections with power supply, two regular USB-A interfaces and a reversible type-c variant. There is also a gigabit ethernet port, HDMI and an SD card slot, as well as two audio connections. The accessory itself is connected on the basis of USB-C generation 1 and thus offers a maximum bandwidth of 5Gbit/s.
OWC is taking orders for the product for $129, the equivalent of $114, but says it won’t be delivering until the fall. The accessory shows what users of devices with USB-C can expect in terms of expansion options. OWC is not alone in announcing such a dock. Hydradock previously did this via Kickstarter and is asking $169 for a similar product.
Probably all manufacturers of accessories come with usb-c products. During the Computex, almost all hardware manufacturers showed USB-c hardware. For the time being, however, little hardware with the connection is available; the best-known products are the Apple MacBook and the Google Chromebook Pixel.
