Toshiba has announced a 12.5″ convertible equipped with a 4k screen. It is the Satellite Radius 12 and according to Toshiba it is the first hybrid 12.5″ laptop to feature a screen with such a resolution. .

According to Toshiba, the Radius 12 comes in two versions: one with a full HD screen and one with a screen with a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels. In both cases, these are touchscreens with support for ten touch points, which are covered with Gorilla Glass, which should help prevent scratches. The pixels per inch on the 4k model is 362 and the screen has been tuned using Technicolor and Chroma Tune for faithful reproduction of colors. The difference between the two different versions is also in the battery life: Toshiba reports that the 1080p model lasts up to 8 hours on a full charge and the 4k model up to 6 hours. Toshiba bases that data on MobileMark 2014.

The two laptop models are equipped with a sixth-generation Intel Core processor, or Skylake, but Toshiba does not provide specific information about this, except that there is a Core i7 in the top model. The processor has 8GB lpddr3-ram with a speed of 1600MHz at its disposal, and data storage is on an SSD with m.2-factor and storage capacity of 512GB. The graphics are provided by Intel’s integrated HD 520 GPU.

The convertible has one second-generation USB 3.1 Type-C interface for theoretical throughputs of 10Gbit/s. In addition, there are two USB 3.1 ports and support for Bluetooth 4.0 and dual-band AC WiFi. The video output is via HDMI and optionally via Intel Wireless Display. The webcam also has infrared functionality and thus supports Windows Hello, which allows users to quickly log in using facial recognition.

The laptop is 15.4mm thick, weighs 1.32kg, and the hinge can bend 360 degrees until the screen and keyboard are back to back. The housing is made of brushed aluminum and the keyboard is backlit with LEDs.

A comparable 13.3″ laptop was shown earlier in the year at the Computex fair in Taipei, but nothing was known about the convertible at the time, other than that it was equipped with a 4k screen. Toshiba Satellite Radius 12 on the market, but the price is not yet public.
