Google presents Chromebook Pixel with USB-c ports
Google has proposed an update to its Chromebook Pixel. The new version of the laptop that originally appeared in 2013 includes a new processor and two USB-type-c ports instead of USB 2.0 ports.
Google has replaced the Core i5-3337U from the Chromebook Pixel 2013 with a Core i5-5200U in the new version. The search giant is also making an LS variant of its Pixel, something that stands for Ludicrous Speed (‘ridiculous speed’). It runs on a Core i7 variant. In both cases, the GPU is an Intel HD 5500, while the original Pixel has an HD 4000.
In addition to the two USB-type-c ports, the new Pixel also has two regular USB 3.0 ports, a 3.5mm audio jack and space for an SD card. Unlike the original Pixel, the new models have support for Wi-Fi ac and Bluetooth 4.0.
In appearance, the new Pixel is unchanged. It measures 29.7×22.4cm and is 15.3mm thick, while the screen is the same 12.85″ LCD with a resolution of 2560×1700 pixels, giving it an aspect ratio of 3:2. Google claims a battery life of twelve hours.
In addition to the new Chromebook Pixels, Google has also opened a new web store at the url store.google.com. Previously, devices were in the Play Store, where apps can also be found. The new Chromebook Pixel has a price from 999 dollars, which is converted and including VAT around 1150 euros. The LS version costs 1299 dollars, converted and including VAT around 1490 euros.
In addition, Google has stopped selling its smartphone Nexus 5. Until Wednesday, the smartphone from 2013 was still for sale, but on Wednesday it disappeared from the Play Store.
