At the beginning of next month, Valve will be making a presentation about glNext, the successor to OpenGL that the Khronos organization is working on during GDC 2015. Among other things, the company will provide demonstrations of applications running on glNext drivers and hardware.

The GDC 2015 website has been updated to provide information about the presentation. This shows that in addition to employees of Valve, developers of the Frostbite engine, Epic Games and Unity will also take the stage. The presentation concerns ‘the emerging cross-platform graphics API designed for modern programming techniques and processors’.

Furthermore, the invitation makes it clear that the technical background of the api will be revealed. Techniques and applications that run on glNext drivers and hardware will also be demonstrated.

Valve is one of the driving forces behind OpenGL, as opposed to Microsoft ‘closed’ DirectX. Valve’s SteamOS uses the api, which will be completely rewritten with glNext.
