Online benchmarks show that the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 in 3DMark performs about 5 percent better than the GTX 980 Ti and the Radeon R9 Fury X. The GTX 1080 is 24 percent faster than the 1070.

Official benchmarks of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 are not yet available, but VideoCardz managed to find out the results of several testers on the 3DMark website. With this data, a table was compiled to compare the performance of the new video card with older cards and the recently introduced GTX 1080.

As expected, the GTX 1070 performs roughly on par with the GTX 980 Ti. In 3DMark, the new video card is about five percent faster. The GTX 1070 is one and a half to twice as fast as the GTX 970. In all cases, it concerns the 3DMark Fire Strike benchmark. The results in games may deviate from this. Nvidia itself claims that the GTX 1070 is about 1.7 times faster than the GTX 970 in games like Rise of the Tomb Raider and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but that has not yet been independently tested.

It is striking that the 3DMark results show a gpu speed of 1860MHz, while according to Nvidia the boost of the GTX 1070 goes to 1683MHz. In practice, however, the GTX 1080 also appeared to peak at higher speeds; that seems to be the case with the 1070 as well.

The ‘Founders Edition’ of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 will be on sale from June 10. This is a more expensive variant with Nvidia’s reference design. The suggested euro retail price is likely to be more than 500 euros. It is not yet known when manufacturers will come up with their own versions.
