HP to release Windows 10 smartphone that supports x86 apps in September

HP will release the Elite x3 smartphone with Windows 10 Mobile in September. Thanks to a service from HP, the smartphone with ARM processors can stream x86 apps. They can also be used on larger screens thanks to the support for Continuum.

HP employees would have said that the Elite x3 will appear in Italy in September for 699 euros, reports the Italian site Plaffo. The manufacturer has not yet announced a price and exact release date, but has so far talked about ‘this summer’ as the period for the release of its first Windows 10 smartphone.

A September release is likely, as HP is waiting for the Anniversary Update for Windows 10 Mobile before launching the smartphone. That update will come in August. In addition, it was still visibly working on the hardware during the presentation in February. The design was not completely finished and the fingerprint scanner was not yet on the device.

The Elite x3 is a smartphone with a 6″ OLED screen with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. The phone runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, with four Kryo processor cores at 2.2 GHz and an Adreno 530 GPU. ‘ where the phone fits: the Mobile Extender. The interface will then be shown on the larger screen via Continuum. It is unknown how much it will cost extra.

HP has maintained that it focuses on the business market with the smartphone. Whether and when the Elite x3 will be released for consumers in the Benelux is unknown.
