Netgear introduces Orbi LBR20 router with 4G support
Netgear has released a new router in the Orbi series. The Orbi LBR20 offers support for 4G and WiFi 5. The LBR20 will have a suggested retail price of 400 euros and is available from now on. Users can purchase separate Orbi AC satellites for better coverage.
Netgear provides the Orbi LBR20 with a nano-SIM slot. This allows users to use the router as a 4G modem. According to Netgear, the router offers a maximum speed of 1.2Gbit / s via 4G. The router also supports 802.11ac WiFi, also known as WiFi 5. The router achieves speeds of up to 400Mbit / s with a 2.4GHz connection. The maximum speed on the 5GHz frequency is 866Mbit / s. For the connection between the LBR20 and any Orbi AC satellites, Netgear uses a 2×2 backhaul with speeds up to 866Mbit / s. According to the company, the router has a range of ‘up to 125 square meters’. On the American product page, however, a range of 185m² is mentioned.
The LBR20 has a quad-core CPU with a clock speed of 710MHz, but the exact type is not mentioned. The router supports mu-mimoallowing it to communicate with several devices at the same time. Netgear does not list any amount of mu-mimo streams supported. The LBR20 also supports beamforming. The router also has a WAN port for wired internet, which can also function as a LAN port. Netgear also provides the router with a second separate LAN port. The router also has two SMA antenna connections, although the company does not include these antennas. The router has dimensions of 170x79x226mm and weighs 0.78 kilograms.
