Far Cry Primal gets Survivor mode with ‘permadeath’ option
Ubisoft is going to release an update for Far Cry Primal that will add the ‘Survivor Mode’. The new mode that should make the game more challenging can be set independently of the difficulty level. The patch will be available on April 12 for PC and consoles.
According to Ubisoft, permadeath is optional. Players who enable this option will have to start all over again if they die in the game. Survivor mode also makes the game harder by adding a Stamina gauge and turning off the minimap by default. The fog of war has also been made ‘thicker’. Fast travel remains possible, but consumes stamina and food. In addition, animals, plants and necessities are scarcer. Furthermore, cold environments, fire and nights are more dangerous for the player.
Taming animals is much more difficult in Survivor mode according to Ubisoft. Some animals need to be attacked before they can be tamed. If one of the animals the player has tamed dies, the animal will not return. Some animals such as the Bloodfang and Sabretooth can only be tamed once and if the player loses them, they cannot be recovered.
At its release, Far Cry Primal was criticized because the game turned out to be very easy. Ubisoft immediately released a patch that added an Expert mode for advanced players. With the new Survivor mode, Ubisoft goes one step further.
Whoever completes the game with the Survivor mode enabled, on the Expert difficulty and permadeath enabled, will receive a special reward upon completion, promises Ubisoft. The update will be released on April 12 for Far Cry Primal on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows.
Update 12.30: The update also adds 4k textures to the game with the PC version. That should improve the image quality when the game is played in the resolution of 3840×2160 pixels.
