On Monday, a small update was released for the version 7.0 of TrueCrypt, released at the end of July. TrueCrypt is an open source encryption program that can encrypt physical volumes, such as a hard disk or a partition, and virtual volumes, such as a file accessed as a partition. In addition, it is possible to create a hidden volume in the encrypted disk. This second volume is only visible if the correct password is entered. So whoever is forced to provide the password has the option of providing only the password that gives access to the entire encrypted disk. The second hidden volume is then completely invisible. More information about this can be found at this page are being found. Version 7.0 includes support for hardware acceleration when translating the aes key. Volumes can also now be configured to log in automatically when mounted. In version 7.0a, the following changes have also been made:

Improvements:

  • Workaround for a bug in some custom (non-Microsoft) drivers for storage device controllers that caused a system crash when initiating hibernation on TrueCrypt-encrypted operating systems. (Windows 7/Vista/2008/2008R2)
