Personal data 6 million Chileans online

According to Chilean authorities, a hacker stole the data of 6 million Chileans and put them online for a short time. The hacker wanted to demonstrate how poorly personal data is protected in Chile.

The personal data comes from servers at the Chilean Ministry of Education, the central electoral administration and the army, police commissioner Jaime Jara has said. confirmed. The data included ID card numbers, addresses, telephone numbers, e-mails and the academic background of individuals. According to Jara, the information was deleted the next day and did not appear to be banking or financial data.

According to El Mercurio newspaper, which was the first to report the incident brought and who had access to some of the data, the database contained a list of students, including one of Chilean President Michelle Bachelet’s two daughters, who have to pay less for public transport. The tickets contain a photo of the student and the name of the school, but no other sensitive information.

The hacker calls himself ‘Anonymous Coward’ and, according to the newspaper, wants to draw attention to the lousy security of personal data in Chile with his action. It is not yet known how the hacker proceeded. Chile has a total of about 16.5 million inhabitants.
