Windows 10 will have the function to run multiple Android apps via Your Phone
The Your Phone software in the latest Insiders build of Windows 10 makes it possible to run Android apps from a paired Samsung smartphone in a separate window. Later it will be possible to run multiple apps at the same time from the Galaxy Note 20.
With Microsoft’s Your Phone application it was already possible to mirror the screen of a smartphone on a Windows 10 PC and thus use Android applications on a computer, but that happened within the Your Phone software. The new Windows 10 build 20185, which is available to Insiders, opens apps from a paired smartphone in a separate window.
It is therefore possible to attach apps to the taskbar, such as with Windows software. There are still some restrictions; for example, the audio from apps is played via the phone and not via the PC. Also, not all apps support it cast to another screen. Apps that don’t support that will display a black window. To use the feature, the phone and PC must be on the same Wi-Fi network.
Later this year, it will be possible to open multiple Android apps simultaneously in their own windows via the Your Phone link. At first, that will only work with the Galaxy Note 20, but Microsoft is working with Samsung to make that possible on more devices.
For the time being, the functionality only works with Samsung smartphones with Android 9 or newer. Microsoft mentions a list of phones that are compatible, which includes recent midrange phones from the Galaxy A series in addition to high-end models. Whether the functionality will also be available for Android phones from other brands is not yet known.
