Samsung stops WhatsApp competitor after all
Contrary to what the South Korean company previously suggested, Samsung will stop its WhatsApp competitor ChatOn. In February, the plug will be pulled from the service, the company has announced. That’s earlier than expected.
On February 1, Samsung will pull the plug from ChatOn, Samsung has told the South Korean news agency Yonhap. Samsung makes an exception for the United States, where the service remains in the air, reports Engadget. The service is closed in all other countries.
Earlier, a Korean newspaper reported that Samsung would stop ChatOn, which has lagged significantly behind its major competitor WhatsApp in popularity. However, the South Korean conglomerate denied that it would stop the messaging service. Incidentally, the South Korean newspaper reported that Samsung would slowly phase out the service, while the company is now pulling the plug from the service quite abruptly.
