Microsoft is working on streaming apps and games
Microsoft is working on a service, Arcadia, that can stream apps and games from the cloud, ZDnet reports. It is not clear when the service will be available; Microsoft is currently looking for staff for the team working on it.
The technology would currently be developed in a new team, Microsoft expert Mary Jo Foley writes on ZDnet. Microsoft is currently looking for new employees for the team. In one of the vacancies, Microsoft calls the project ‘the next big thing for Microsoft’. Microsoft also calls experience with iOS and Android an advantage, which could indicate that the service will also be available for other platforms.
Initially, Microsoft would have planned to stream Android apps and games to Windows devices, but that idea would have been shelved. It is not yet clear what exactly Microsoft intends to do with the platform. Microsoft may want to run heavy software on thin clients, something that is already happening with complete desktops. Streaming games has also been happening for some time, including through OnLive. However, gamers complain about the input lag that the services cause.
Microsoft expert Foley does not expect that Microsoft, which has not yet revealed anything about the existence of the project, will make an official announcement anytime soon. Foley thinks that the service will only appear after the introduction of Windows 10 in the fall of next year.
