Google has presented an SDK for the Cardboard, its cardboard virtual reality headset for the Nexus 5. The SDK allows developers to create apps and games that users can install on their Nexus to be played with a Cardboard.

The SDK includes support for Unity and should make the development of apps for virtual reality easier, says Google. The maker of the virtual reality headset hopes that thanks to the SDK, developers will spend less time correcting lens aberrations and keeping track of the position of the head when creating apps and games. The search giant has also set up a showcase in the Play Store for apps that work on the Cardboard.

There are now half a million users of the Cardboard, a cardboard virtual reality headset announced by Google at its developer conference I/O. The Nexus 5 from Google itself fits into the Cardboard, where the screen of the smartphone forms the image for the headset.
