All devices running Android KitKat can now stream screen to Chromecast
Google is rolling out an update for its own Chromecast app that will allow all Android devices that run at least KitKat 4.4.2 to stream their screen display to the HDMI stick. Some devices were already compatible with the service.
To take advantage of the functionality, Chromecast owners must download the companion app. The users then only have to perform a few actions to be able to connect to the HDMI stick. The screen cast function is not yet optimized for all devices, Android Police writes. In addition, only devices running at least Android version 4.4.2 are supported.
The option allows users to stream the image on their Android device to their TV via Chromecast. This makes it possible, for example, to view photos and videos on a TV. The beta of the service was rolled out in June. A number of devices could already handle the function, including the Nexus devices and the top devices from Samsung, LG, Sony and HTC. Google has also made adjustments to the interface: it is now based on the Material Design design.
