Eidos Montreal announces new game engine
Developer Eidos Montreal has announced a new game engine. The studio behind Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Thief reports that the so-called Dawn Engine is specially designed for the PC and the latest generation of consoles.
Dawn Engine is said to be a heavily modified version of IO Interactive’s Glacier 2 engine. Eidos Montreal writes that the existing engines were usually relied upon, but the company’s capabilities were ‘limited’ as a result. An engine has therefore been developed that must meet the wishes of Eidos Montreal. For example, the company claims that, among other things, the possibilities in the field of rendering have been improved and more is also possible in the field of programming artificial intelligence.
The aim is to improve the graphical performance of the own games with the engine. In addition, the gameplay and storylines should also be of a higher level. Eidos Montreal has released a screenshot to show what the engine is capable of. Not too much should be derived from the image, the developer indicates.
Eidos Montreal reports that the Dawn Engine will form the basis for all Deus Ex Universe projects. However, the company does not want to delve too deeply into the projects it wants to work on. It is clear that there must be connections between the games.
