Weaved launches service for operating Raspberry Pi over the internet

The start-up Weave has developed a so-called IoT Kit to remotely control applications that run on the Raspberry Pi via an API. A beta version of the service can be tested for free for the time being.

With the IoT Kit, among other things, internet-of-things applications can be controlled via an internet connection and a browser or mobile phone. The software establishes a secure connection, after which the user can remotely read the various gpio inputs on a Raspberry Pi board or control software. The user can also receive notifications.

Secure connections can be established with a Raspberry Pi in various ways. In addition to the well-known ssh protocol, a Linux shell can also be accessed via webSSH, in which Shell-In-A-Box is combined with Weave software. An HTTP connection via port 80 can also be set up, as well as WebIOPI, which runs on the basis of the REST framework and a web app. Finally, a user can call their own tcp service via any port.

Weaved’s IoT Kit is currently in beta testing. When using a Raspberry Pi, the service is free, but with more than one Raspberry, the wallet has to be pulled. An iOS application is also available.
