Sony launches TV service on PlayStation in US
Sony is starting in the United States with a service where users can watch live TV on the PlayStation 3 and 4. It is also possible to watch broadcast programs without having to record them.
Many major US television networks, such as CBS, Fox, NBC and Viacom, have said they will partner with the service, which will be called Vue. The service will begin beta testing in four cities; early next year, everyone in the United States should be able to use the service.
Initially, the service can only be used on the PlayStation 3 and 4, but the iPad should follow soon. Other “Sony and non-Sony devices” should also receive support for Vue. It is not clear what users will have to pay for the Vue service. It is also unknown whether Sony has plans to introduce the service outside the United States; that is difficult, because the service requires deals with rights holders of TV programs to function properly.
