Motorola has started rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop
Motorola is said to have started rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop to the Moto X. Owners of the Moto G also reportedly receive the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system, it became clear on Saturday.
Ars Technica, among others, mentions this. The site is based on documents from Motorola and user findings, but these have been taken offline in all cases. It is not clear why the links no longer work.
Motorola previously released that it will update the most recent smartphones in its product portfolio to Android 5.0 Lollipop. This includes the Moto X and the Moto G, of which both the 2013 and 2014 version will receive an update. The cheaper Moto E model and the recent American Droid devices also get the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system.
For the time being, the Moto X seems to be the first smartphone to receive the update. This concerns the ‘pure’ edition of the telephone, where there is no lock. The first to receive Lollipop are owners who signed up for the so-called soak test. With that, Motorola is testing the update before it distributes Lollipop to all of the smartphones mentioned.
It is striking that Motorola is faster than Google itself with the rollout of Android 5.0: the Android 5.0 update for existing Nexus devices such as the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 will be released on November 12, according to the latest rumors. Google would like to fix some more bugs.
Google announced Android 5.0 in June as Android L, bringing many new features and functions to users. This includes notifications on the lock screen, and a design that Google describes as ‘material design’. Google has already updated many apps with that ‘material design’ in recent weeks.
