Lenovo: no Moto smartphones with a screen smaller than 5 “in 2016
Lenovo has said that no Moto smartphones with a screen diagonal smaller than 5″ will appear in 2016. In addition, all Moto smartphones will have a fingerprint scanner, a function that the brand’s smartphones have not had until now.
Smartphones with screens smaller than 5″ are only in demand in Europe, but in the rest of the world users want larger screens, says a Lenovo CEO in conversation with the Chinese site Sina. That is why Lenovo only has models with screens of 5″ and larger among the maximum of fifteen models it releases in its Moto and Vibe lines. It seems that the Moto E 2015 of 4.5″ will not get a larger successor in 2016.
In addition, Lenovo says it has set itself the goal of merging the stock Android of Motorola smartphones and the Vibe UI of Lenovo’s smartphones. It is not yet known what the new interface will look like. Motorola’s smartphones have been known in recent years for the interface to be close to the interface that Google puts on its Nexus devices. Inspired by Apple’s iOS and Xiaomi’s Miui, Vibe UI doesn’t use a main menu, supports themes, and deeply interferes with Android’s look and functionality.
Lenovo will also place fingerprint scanners on all Moto models. Where other brands, such as Samsung, Sony, HTC and Apple, have released smartphones with fingerprint scanners, Motorola has omitted them. Such a scanner should have been on the Nexus 6 from 2014, but Google canceled the function, because the scanner would not work well enough.
Lenovo said last week that it will switch to two brand names worldwide, Vibe and Moto. It is unknown when the Chinese manufacturer will present the next models. Last February, Lenovo announced the Moto E 2015 as the first device of the new year.
