Nvidia has made its GeForce Now service available in beta for the Microsoft Edge browser. This makes it possible to stream PC games from, for example, Steam via the subscription with the internet browser on an Xbox console.

The more than 1,000 PC games available through the GeForce Now service can now be played in beta on an Edge browser by select users, The Verge reports. Tom Warren, the author of the article, say successfully tested the option on an Xbox through the Edge browser. It should work on the Xbox Series X and S as well as the older Xbox One models.

By connecting a mouse and keyboard to the Xbox, games that do not offer controller support can also be streamed via the subscription service. Streamed games do contain a lot of latency, according to Warren. Because the Xbox is not officially supported by GeForce Now, there are also a number of problems associated with it. For example, two cursors appear on the screen when a mouse is played.

Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, had previously announced PC games want to offer on Xbox via the Cloud Gaming service. Until then, the detour via GeForce Now is the only way to stream PC games on an Xbox console.

With the Parsec web app it was already possible to stream the user’s own PC via the Xbox console to the Edge browser on the Xbox. For example, Steam games could already be played ‘via’ the Xbox, although players would actually control their own PC. It is unknown when the ability to play GeForce Now games via an Edge browser will be available to everyone.
