EA Sports Working On New Golf Game With PGA Tour License
Publisher EA is working on a new golf game titled EA Sports PGA Tour. The game will be made with the Frostbite engine and will feature official golf courses and professional golfers. When the game will be released has not yet been announced.
EA and golf organization PGA Tour have signed a new long-term game creation agreement. The first game is already in development, but it is not known how long it has been in the works. The game will feature ‘world famous’ golf courses and players, but which one is not yet known. The game is made by EA Tiburion, the Florida studio that also makes the Madden games for EA Sports.
EA says it will announce more about the game in the coming weeks and the release date will also be announced in the coming months. It is not yet known for which platforms the game will appear, but EA refers to the game as a next-gen game. EA typically releases its sports games for PC as well as Xbox and PlayStation consoles.
2K Games announced a long-term partnership with golfer Tiger Woods earlier this month. The publisher also acquired developer HB Studios Multimedia, the developer of golf game PGA Tour 2K21 and The Golf Club series.
So both EA and 2K now have a PGA Tour license and both will be releasing golf games. 2K has exclusive rights to Tiger Woods’ image, so that golfer will not appear in EA Sports’ games. In the past, EA made the Tiger Woods PGA Tour games. Sixteen volumes of these were published between 1998 and 2013.
