Google TV gets support for personalized profiles and watch lists
Google TV gets support for personalized profiles. This allows different users of a Google TV device to set up their own watch list and to see individual content suggestions.
Google told The Verge that the personalized profiles feature will be released next month for the Chromecast with Google TV and Sony and TCL televisions with that OS. It is already possible to sign in to a Google TV device with more than one account, but content suggestions and watchlists are currently based exclusively on the activity of the primary account.
The different profiles can use all apps installed on the Google TV device, regardless of which user has downloaded the app. The login information of individual streaming services is also synchronized between the different profiles. Google TV already supports child profiles, which allow parents to set a viewing time limit and restrict the apps that children can access, notes The Verge.
The website further writes that Google TV will receive glanceable cards in ambient mode at a later date. It can display, among other things, weather forecasts, news and sports statistics. The Google TV remote feature that the company introduced for Android last month will also be available soon via the Google Home app for Android and iOS.
