The full-frame DSLR that Pentax comes with will be given the type number K-1 and will probably be equipped with a 36.4-megapixel sensor with five-axis image stabilization. Like the K3 II, the device will probably have a Pixel Shift Resolution function.

Digicame info has published a list of specifications and new photos have appeared that reveal the name of the Pentax K-1. The Japanese website is known for publishing accurate data on cameras that have not yet been announced. According to the data, the K-1 will have a 36.4-megapixel sensor. Most likely it is a cmos chip from the Sony factory. The ISO range would run from 100 to 204,800 and the shooting speed is up to 4.4fps in full-frame mode, with room for 17 raw files in the buffer.

The sensor is combined with a five-axis image stabilization system in the housing with an advertised gain of five stops. Until now, there are no SLRs on the market that offer such a technique. Only the Sony A7R II system camera combines a full-frame sensor with image stabilization.

Like the Pentax K3-II, the K-1 will have a Pixel Shift Resolution function. The camera then takes four shots in quick succession and moves the sensor one pixel for each shot using the stabilization mechanism. The files are combined into a photo that has the color information of four pixels available for each pixel captured. This results in sharper images without color errors and with less noise.

Teaser photos previously published by Ricoh

Photos from Ricoh already showed that the Pentax K-1 will have a housing with a 3″ LCD that can be tilted. According to the leaked specifications, both WiFi and GPS are built in. Furthermore, there are said to be two SDXC card slots in the body, which is sealed against dust and moisture and weighs 925 grams. The optical viewfinder has a magnification of 0.7x and is said to show one hundred percent of the image.

The development of the full-frame DSLR was already announced by Ricoh Imaging last year. The manufacturer also showed a prototype and various teaser photos, but precise specifications were not yet known. Ricoh is likely to present the Pentax K-1 just before or during the CP+ photo fair, which will take place in Japan from February 25-28.

Two new full-frame lenses are likely to be announced along with the Pentax K-1. Photos and specifications of the Pentax-D FA 15-30mm f/2.8 ED SDM WR and 28-105mm f/3.5-5.6 ED DC WR have been leaked. The former ultra-wide angle is probably made by Tamron; that manufacturer also has a 15-30mm f/2.8 in its range. In recent months, Ricoh Imaging also announced the arrival of a 24-70mm f/2.8 and 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6 lens.
