Fairphone 2 from 2015 will get Android 10 upgrade early next year
The Fairphone 2 will receive an upgrade to Android 10 early next year. The beta test of this upgrade will start on Tuesday. The smartphone appeared at the end of 2015 and was then supplied with Android 5.
Because the soc of the Fairphone 2, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801, is no longer supported by the manufacturer, Fairphone itself had to make the operating system suitable for the Fairphone 2 in collaboration with the open source community of the smartphone maker. what the upgrade brings.
The company says it aims to release the upgrade early next year and that the Fairphone 2 will receive Android updates for seven years, although the phone only came out in mid-2015 and it is currently 6.5 years. The manufacturer says this is a record for an Android smartphone. However, Android 12 has now been released as the most recent Android version. It is not clear whether the smartphone will also receive new updates after the upgrade.
At the beginning of this year, an Android 9 upgrade appeared for the relatively old smartphone. Before that upgrade, the phone ran on Android 7. Android 10 first became available in September 2019. In addition to beta testing of the Android 10 upgrade, beta testing for the Android 11 upgrade of the Fairphone 3 and 3+ will begin later this week.
