DICE Takes Action Against ‘XP Farms’ in Portal Mode Battlefield 2042
DICE has taken steps to reduce the effectiveness of XP farming in Battlefield 2042’s Portal mode. Players can develop their own game modes in Portal and this system was abused to gain unfairly high XP.
The measures against XP farms have been rolled out on all platforms, so late DICE in a Tweet know. The developer does not share any details about how it has curtailed the ease of earning XP. Before the release of Battlefield 2042, a developer of EA’s Ripple Effect told Dexerto, “We’ve implemented restrictions behind the scenes. [tegen XP-farms], apart from the fact that we closely monitor this practice. We want to be able to control people who create farms.”
At the time of writing, there are no longer any Portal servers in the PC version of Battlefield 2042 with “1 HP”, “fast XP” or other references to XP farms. Before the update there were still various examples of such servers to see. In almost all cases, bots with only 1 HP were used to make it as easy as possible for actual players to score points. The XP players earn in custom Portal games will simply count towards the player’s overall level and any Battle Pass.
Coinciding with the announcement of measures against XP farms let DICE know too free up more server space for player-created Portal games. Due to the apparent popularity of the game mode, an unknown number of users were presented with the “Global Game Quota Exceeded” error message.
Battlefield 2042 will be playable starting Friday for members of EA Play and for customers who have purchased the Gold or Ultimate edition of the game. The Portal tool, on the other hand, is accessible to anyone with an EA account; anyone can develop game modes. Portal allows users, among other things, to determine what rules, conditions, game objectives, weapons and factions apply in a dedicated server.
