Balsa Model Flight Simulator from Kerbal Space Program creator will be out Summer 2020
Former Kerbal Space Program developer Felipe Falanghe is working on an airplane simulator game where players can design, build and fly their own planes, complemented by multiplayer options and combat.
Balsa’s Steam page states that the game will be released sometime in the summer of next year and that it is an Early Access project. The game had been available as a VR title for a while through the Oculus store, but now Balsa is also available as a regular game for PC.
Balsa gives players the ability to build any flying vehicle imaginable. Once the parts have been put together, the design can be refined and completely personalized, including a coat of paint. The aircraft can be controlled from the cockpit, but also from an external camera point of view or from the ground.
In addition to the more regular planes, players in Balsa should eventually also be able to build helicopters, Vtol planes and missiles, but that may not be available immediately at release. The developer also says that it will add more modes and playing fields in the long run.
Players will have access to a sandbox mode to fly around in peace, but there is also a single player mode, in which players can advance their career by overcoming challenges. Battles and aerial duels with, for example, paintballs can take place and there is support for up to sixteen players in multiplayer.
When flying, a physics model is involved, so that the created designs behave realistically in the air. According to the developer, Balsa can be modified ‘to the extreme’, so that players can add new content relatively easily, such as parts, but also planes, playing fields and new modes.
